Band Info:

Stephen William Bragg (born 20 December 1957 in Barking, Essex, England), better known as Billy Bragg, is an English musician who blends elements of folk music, punk rock and protest songs and recently, alternative rock. His lyrics mostly deal with political or romantic themes. His music career has lasted more than 30 years, and he has collaborated with Johnny Marr, Kate Nash, Leon Rosselson, members of R.E.M., Michelle Shocked, Less Than Jake, Kitty Daisy & Lewis, Kirsty MacColl, and Wilco. Bragg often plays and speaks at the Tolpuddle Martyrs festival. Bragg Close, in Dagenham, Greater London, is named in his honour. He now lives in Dorset.

Band Info:

The Dead Kennedys were an American punk band from the first wave of American punk rock, formed in San Francisco, California in 1978. Pioneers of hardcore punk during the 1980s, the band gained a large underground following in the international punk music scene.

The music of the Dead Kennedys mixed the more experimental elements of British 1970s punk with the raw energy of the 1980s American hardcore punk scene. Dead Kennedys' songs mix the deliberately shocking lyrics of punk with a humorous, acerbic, satirical, and sarcastic left-wing commentary on current social and political issues. Many of the band's songs criticized the right-wing ideologies of the Christian right, the Presidency of Ronald Reagan, U.S. foreign policy, and consumerist culture.

In the late 1980s, the band was embroiled in an obscenity trial in the US over the 1985 Frankenchrist album, which included a poster with art that depicted penises (Penis Landscape by H. R. Giger). The band was charged criminally with distribution of harmful matter to minors, but the trial ended with a hung jury.

The band officially disbanded in 1986. From 1998-2004, the band was embroiled in an acrimonious lawsuit over royalties and rights to the band's music. In 2001, the band re-formed and began touring with a new vocalist over the objections of former lead singer Jello Biafra, who, after losing the lawsuit and being found liable for fraud, filed two appeals that he later lost.

Dave Matthews Band (sometimes shortened to DMB) is an American rock band formed in Charlottesville, Virginia in 1991. Founding members include singer-songwriter and guitarist Dave Matthews, bassist Stefan Lessard, violinist Boyd Tinsley, and drummer Carter Beauford. Saxophonist LeRoi Moore, a founding member, was part of the band until his death in August 2008. His spot is currently occupied by Jeff Coffin, of Béla Fleck and the Flecktones fame. With band members who each have roots in differing genres, including jazz, classical music, soul music, and "Afro-beat", the combination of each member has created a sound which has earned them fans from a variety of quarters.

William Martin "Billy" Joel (born May 9, 1949) is an American rock musician, singer-songwriter, and classical composer. He released his first hit song, "Piano Man", in 1973. According to the RIAA, Billy Joel is the sixth best-selling recording artist in the United States.[3]

Joel had Top 10 hits in the '70s, '80s, and '90s and has 33 Top 40 hits in the United States overall. He is also a six-time Grammy Award winner, a 23-time Grammy nominee and has sold in excess of 150 million albums worldwide.[4] He was inducted into the Songwriter's Hall of Fame (Class of 1992), the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (Class of 1999), and the Long Island Music Hall of Fame (Class of 2006). Comments: this is a super SBD of a really fun show - these two guys are obviously enjoying playing together!
As could be expected, there's lots of offbeat humor packed into the between-song banter, as well as some truly inspired jamming!

Well, you're going to LOVE this awesome-sounding show!
A caveat, however: Since I am not a Tears For Fears fan, I had to research almost all of the song titles below.
I think I got everything correct, but please forgive me if any of the titles are incorrect.
Also, this show came to me as "Unknown venue" and with an April 1990 date. After doing some research, I found that
this Cleveland show was held at Public Hall on Feb. 12, 1990.

Note #1: I decided to create a separate track for the encore break--which is really just crowd applause--since it lasts roughly two minutes; tracking it this way allows you the option of skipping over the "applause" track when you listen to the show...and thereby saving two minutes of listening time.

Note #2: The volume on both CDs is just below 90dB; I did not make any adjustment to the volume, although some of you who prefer louder recordings may want to increase the volume 1-2 dB with your favorite wave editor if you feel the volume should be slightly louder.

About "The RS Archives":
The RS Archive consists of a selection of live recordings made by a great individual who passed away in 2005.

RS worked in the music industry in many capacities….a music fan….a musician….a sound engineer. He was considered one of the best behind the mixing board. I was honored to have known him for practically 35 years. There was no one like him….he was a wonderful human being. Everybody loved him. He was a level-headed guy who knew what sounded good and what didn't. He could conceive and design sound systems from scratch in his head to meet the artist’s needs. Whatever they wanted, he could do.


For years, he mixed music at the annual Grammy Awards and the American Music Awards television show. RS worked closely for years with Daryl Hall and John Oates, Juice Newton, Anita Baker, Mariah Carey, Tears for Fears, Crack the Sky, Kid Creole and the Coconuts, Aretha Franklin, Pink Floyd, Whitney Houston, Bette Midler, Ann Murray, Michael Bolton, Kenny G, Tony Bennett, Johnny Cash, Eric Clapton, John Fogerty, Bonnie Raitt, Frank Sinatra, John Hiatt, Little Feat, Little Village, and Waylon Jennings…..to name a few.

He had a huge reputation in the business, and that's why he was chosen to work with such budding clients as Mariah Carey. With the major stars, he was one of the preferred engineers they choose to work with. A particular client of RS who had a reputation for firing sound engineers with great regularity was Anita Baker, whom he won over not only with his technical abilities and personality, but with his refusal to put up with her criticism. He quit a few times but always came back because she loved the way he mixed her music. He could coddle difficult and temperamental celebrities, and they respected his work. He was able to kick back and get along with them. Even though he knew these people, he was a very modest man.

So now, it is time to honor him by sharing some of the many recordings he made while on the road. All are perfect (or near perfect) soundboard recordings made from the master cassettes or master dat tapes. Unfortunately, I am not able to identify the original equipment these tapes were made on, however I can say that for the transferring process, the cassette tapes were played back on a Nakamichi CR-7A, and the dat tapes on a Sony PCM-R500. They were all burnt onto cdr using a HHB CDR-850.

Notes:
This is a very good performance and very good sound board recording. However, the first two tracks from the setlist are missing from the recording
(Going Up & Villiers Terrace).and the first few seconds of Heads Will Roll and The Cutter.


It seems that the collection is compiled from two different tape sources, so the second half of the recording suffers more from tape hiss than the
rest does. Anyway a very good quality according to the age.

Using a SHN set labled as "Source: SBD > Sony D-10 > CD-R > EAC" splices were taken to patch parts of the DAT clone that had errors.
