TRT: 60:33

Mike Watt - bass, vocals
Dave Grohl - drums, guitar on three songs, backup vocals
Eddie Vedder - guitar left, backup vocals, lead vocals on 'Habit'
Pat Smear - guitar right, backup vocals, lead vocals on 'Secret Garden'
William Goldsmith - drums

Song Credits:
'Walking the Cow' is a Daniel Johnston song (from 'Continued Story' album, covered by fIREHOSE on 'Flyin' the Flannel' album)
'Formal Introduction' & 'Powerful Hankerin' are fIREHOSE songs (from 'Mr. Machinery Operator' album)
'Makin' the Freeway' is a fIREHOSE song (from 'If'n' album)
'Political Song' is a Minuteman song (from 'Double Nickels on the Dime' album)
'Habit' is a Pearl Jam song (from 'No Code' album)
'The Red and the Black' is a Blue Oyster Cult song (from 'Tyranny and Mutation' album)
'Secret Garden' is a Madonna song (from 'Erotica' album)

Audio Notes:
This recording comes from a pro-shot video master of the show, in which an audio copy was traded
to a friend of a camera man on tape, cleaned up with Cool Edit, and put to CD.
There is a slight skip before track 8 begins (present on original copy), and a few audio shifts
periodically throughout the show that are only noticeable if you have headphones on.

Show Notes:
This was one of the shows on Mike Watt's 'Ringspiel' tour in April-May of 1995, supported by the then
newly-formed Foo Fighters (of which Grohl, Smear, and Goldsmith were in) and Hovercraft (which featured Vedder
on drums and his then-wife Beth Liebling). By the end of the tour, Eddie had stopped playing with the
Watt crew because his presence became a distraction with fans only showing up to see him. It's almost
impossible to tell who is playing what instrument, it's just a great rock show.

Notable on these shows is the premier of the song 'Habit,' which was yet to be premiered by Pearl Jam.
It was eventually played a handful of times the rest of the 1995 PJ tour, but it is not known if
it was written before or during the 'Ringspeil' tour.

Nirvana - Melbourne ´The Palace´ 1992 (2 CD) (preFM)

**Remastered** by thir13en

Nirvana
1992-02-01
The Palace
Melbourne, AU

Big thanks to Redwhite for this, a nice crystal clear pFm source of the boys in the start of "the year punk broke". Still able to play "SLTS" with enthusiasm, and a host of other favorites from Nevermind and Bleach.

The source was typical pFM; thin, light and bright. So it got beefed quite a bit and maximized. Sounds big, raucous, the way I think they should sound.

Note: Just a reminder, I do these remasters for myself and I share because there's a bunch of good people around here who are interested in hearing them, plus it's a nice thing to do. Nothing more to it than that. If you don't like it, don't download it. Simple.

Complete pre-FM soundboard recording.

This is the "trading circle version", rated "10.0" by
http://www.livenirvana.com/audiophile/index.html.

--------------------------------------------------------

THE AUDIOPHILE COMPLETISTS' GUIDE TO NIRVANA BOOTLEGS CDs: 02/01/92

There are two sets of commercial releases of this show: complete pre-FM soundboard sources and differently mixed, incomplete, post-FM soundboard recordings.

'Melbourne 1992' is a complete pre-FM soundboard recording. This disc is plagued with pressing/digital errors. The bootleg 'In A Land Far Far Away', also sourced
from the complete pre-FM recording, is free of these errors. However, both discs should be avoided as they are sourced from the trading circle version. Audiophiles
are thus recommended to pick up the trading circle version, rather than bootleg versions of this complete pre-FM source.

The post-FM commercial releases, however, are valuable to the audiophile because they are differently mixed to the pre-FM version and the best sounding versions are
only available on bootleg releases. The best sounding commercial release of the post-FM source is 'Mindblower' (although it runs slow, plus 2nd pressings of thise bootleg
have one second gaps between some of the songs), but the show can also be found on other bootlegs in lower quality.
In order of best quality first after Mindblower, these bootlegs are: 'Territorial Possession' (cloned from the 1st pressing of 'Mindblower'), 'Put The Money Down' (runs at correct speed)
and 'Saturday Night Sonic Attack' (correct speed, but thin sounding and distorted). All commercial releases of this source are incomplete. More complete post-FM versions (with additional
radio banter) are available in trading circles, but bootleg releases sound better.

A special thanks to Tim Bucknall's extensive research into sources of this show.

Notes:
--
This is the original version of the demo and NOT the internet reissue which was available
on the official Moonsorrow page for a few weeks in 2002. Nevertheless this is LOSSLESS,
contrary to the internet reissue, which was in mp3...
The demo was released only in 215 copies (I am lucky enough to own an original copy of this
masterpiece, attached few pictures...)
However this is NOT a cassette transfer, but the original MASTER files I got directly from
Mr. Seponpoika himself.
The artwork made by Ville for the reissue I just altered it in and there.
(I just removed some infos about the remastering process...)

Notes:

This show has circulated from a few different sources, and sometimes in incomplete form. This particular source supplies most of the show from the EMI promo cassette. The only problem with the EMI promo is that it didn't include the first three tracks of the show... "Lucky," "My Iron Lung," or "Airbag."

When I received this show in SHN format the BBC sourced tracks were in one folder, and the EMI sourced tracks in another. If you were to simply take the BBC tracks and place them before the EMI tracks you were left with a sloppy transition (the end of the BBC source seemed to cut out abruptly, and didn't flow smoothly into the EMI source).

What I have done here is basically taken the last track of the BBC source ("Lucky" and crossfaded it with the first track from the EMI source ("Planet Telex". What you're left with is a very smooth transition from one source to the other, giving the impression that this is a complete show taken from a single source.

The only other issue that existed with this show was that there was some slight static/crackling on the BBC source (maybe this is why it wasn't used for the entire show). I have taken the BBC source and ran it through GoldWave's Pop/Click Filter, and this issue has been slightly improved. Before I used the filter you could hear the static a little bit, now you can only hear it if you're looking for it, either way, it's barely noticeable and doesn't interfere with the listening experiendce.

The overall volume and mix of each source seemed to be about the same, so no further adjustments werre made.

I encoded the files to FLAC (level 8) with Trader's Little Helper, and also corrected the SBE's (which were most likely a result of my edits). I have included the original text files that I received with each source, and also "before" and "after" samples of the transtion edits that I made between d1t03-d1t04.

-Enjoy.

--------------------------------------

This set was compiled from the best available sources. Fan-made mutli-disc sets such as "Have You Got It Yet" were not used. These sets tend to be over-processed for mass consumption. This set is mastered from an audiophile standpoint. Mono material appears in true mono and not re-processed stereo. There was no additional echo or ambience added. Noise reduction was not used on any material. Hiss was often reduced with judicious equalization. I have tried to present the best sonic experience possible without compromising the integrity of the source material at hand. If you need just one consise Syd Barrett bootleg in your collection, then this would be the one.
